Our Japan Unescorted program is an exciting and totally different concept designed for travelers who want to experience the best of Japan at their own pace.  Your tour includes a Japan Travel Aid (guide) on your first day in Tokyo to help you tailor-make your very own Japan expedition as well as to teach you all there is to know about traveling on your own in Japan.

• 10 nights hotel accommodations per itinerary

• Full day "Walking Tour" of Tokyo by private guide by public transportation

• 1 lunch

• Transportation within Japan per itinerary including Seven Day Japan Rail Pass (tourist class)

• All transfers upon arrival and departure by airport shuttle

TOUR ITINERARY:

Day 1. Arrive Tokyo

Upon arrival at Narita Airport, proceed to Grand Prince Takanawa (First Class) OR Grand Pacific Le Daiba (Deluxe) by airport limousine bus for next three nights accommodation.

Day 2. Tokyo

Meet your Japan guide for an orientation and walking tour by subway, learning how to explore and enjoy Tokyo unescorted. Lunch at a local restaurant. (L) ***Note: Entrance fees to tourist sites (where applicable) at passengers' own expense***

Day 3. Tokyo

You are free to explore this fascinating cosmopolitan city on your own.

Day 4. Tokyo/Matsumoto

Board the limited express to the castle town of Matsumoto. Overnight accommodation at Matsumoto Tokyu Inn (First Class) OR Hotel Buena Vista (Deluxe)

Day 5. Matsumoto/Takayama

Board a Nohi Bus* to Takayama, a quaint little town nestled in the Japan Alps. Accommodation at Hida Plaza Takayama Hotel (First Class) OR Hotel Associa Takayama (Deluxe) for two nights.

Day 6. Takayama

Free day to explore this and many nearby picturesque towns and traditional villages.

Day 7. Takayama / Kanazawa: Travel by commuter train to Toyama, transfer to the limited express train to Kanazawa, a well preserved fortress town. Accommodation at Miyako Hotel Kanazawa (First Class) OR Hotel Nikko Kanazawa (Deluxe) for two nights.

Day 8. Kanazawa

Day at leisure to explore the narrow streets and quaint tea parlors or take an excursion to the Noto Peninsula.

Day 9. Kanazawa/Kyoto

Board a limited express train to Kyoto, ancient capital of Japan and the cradle of Japanese culture. Your accommodation for the next two nights is at Righa Royal Kyoto | Tokyu Hotel (First Class) OR Hotel Okura Kyoto (Deluxe) ***Rihga Royal & Tokyu Hotel provide complimentary shuttle from/to Kyoto Station***

Day 10. Kyoto

Steeped in history and tradition, there are over 2000 temples and shrines as well as nearby Nara for you to explore.

Day 11. Return Home

Transfer to Osaka Airport (Itami or Kansai Airport) by shuttle van for your departure flight home.

*Nohi bus fare between Matsumoto & Takayama not covered by Japan Rail Pass. Separate bus ticket (included in package) will be issued locally in Japan.
