Daily departure.
Your introduction to Japan begins by
touching down at the world's most modern city - Tokyo. Its
contrasts between the old and the new, the traditional and modern
makes Tokyo an exciting place for travelers to visit the
world over. Your journey continues
on to Kyoto, the ancient capital of Japan for more than a
thousand years, and
forever known for its history and culture, casting an image of
Old Japan where ancient Buddhist temples,
traditional wooden houses, stunning palaces and beautiful
classical gardens abound.
Kyoto, the
ancient capital of Japan for more than a thousand years, is
forever known for its history and culture, casting an image of
Old Japan with an abundance of ancient Buddhist temples,
traditional wooden houses, stunning palaces and beautiful
classical gardens. Highlights in Kyoto include the
Kyoto Imperial Palace, built in 1603 and former residence of
Japan's imperial family until 1868, when the emperor and capital
moved to Tokyo. Today, this historical landmark serves as a
relaxing refuge of rich greenery from the busy streets of Kyoto Centre; the Golden Pavilion,
this three-storied glittering structure covered with gold foil and
surrounded by fabulous gardens was named World Cultural Heritage in
1994; and Nara, Kyoto's predecessor
as the ancient capital of Japan, also regarded as the birthplace of
Japanese civilization. Today Nara is a beautiful town set against a
backdrop of wooded hills and home to early masterpieces of Japanese
art and architecture.
