Northern Vietnam Holiday, Private Vietnam adventure and trekking tour

An Off-the-Beaten-Path tour of Northern Vietnam – Hanoi, Sapa, Halong & Lan Ha Bay

9 Days / 8 Nights – Tour Code (VNA) – Private Tour

For those seeking the road less traveled and a rich blend of nature, culture, and relaxation, this awe-inspiring 9-day private tour of Northern Vietnam delivers. Artfully curated, the journey unveils the capital’s elegance, the mountains’ mystique, and the bay’s timeless allure. It is a voyage through three distinct worlds: Hanoi’s colonial boulevards and culinary treasures, Sapa’s emerald terraces and vibrant hill tribes, and the dreamy seascapes of Halong and Lan Ha Bay.

In Hanoi, the tempo of life unfolds in contrasts both refined and rustic. Glide by cyclo through the Old Quarter, admire the murals of Phung Hung Street that capture the city’s past and present, and indulge in an evening food walk that celebrates the artistry of Vietnamese cuisine. Here, heritage and gastronomy intertwine in elegant rhythm.

In Sapa, adventure lives on mist-veiled mountain paths and terraced fields that rise like emerald stairways into the clouds. Trek with expert guides to ethnic minority villages, where vivid embroidery and ancestral traditions endure. At day’s end, retreat to your choice of accommodations in Sapa town—alive with charm and vibrancy—or to an eco-luxury hideaway perched high above the valley. As you bid farewell to the mountains, a nostalgic overnight train awaits—an experience echoing the days when rail was the only gateway to these storied highlands.

Finally, surrender to the tranquility of Halong and Lan Ha Bay, twin jewels of the Gulf of Tonkin. Cruise aboard a small luxury vessel, kayak into hidden lagoons, and cycle to Viet Hai village, where daily rhythms unfold as they have for centuries—concluding each evening in romance and enchantment.”

This uncommon Vietnam journey blends luxury, heritage, and adventure in perfect harmony—crafted for the discerning adventurer. Northern Vietnam awaits—intimate, extraordinary, and ready to be yours.

TOUR ITINERARY

Day 1 Arrive Hanoi (Welcome to Vietnam)

Upon arrival, you’ll be greeted by your private guide and chauffeured into the city. Settle into your hotel where refined service blends with Vietnamese hospitality. Dinner tonight is at leisure—perhaps a glass of wine at the hotel’s rooftop bar or your first taste of Hanoi street food just outside your door.

Day 2 Hanoi (History, Culture & Flavor)

Set out on a curated excursion that traces the heart of Hanoi’s culture and history. Explore world-class museums and temples, hear stories of resilience at Hoa Lo Prison, and glide through the Old Quarter’s maze of alleys on a cyclo, each corner alive with the hum of daily life that has echoed for centuries. Pause for coffee at a local café before returning to your hotel for a leisurely afternoon.

In the evening, embark on your guided culinary walk. Begin with a croissant and coffee, savor countryside-style noodle soup beneath shaded gardens, sample banh mi grilled over open flames, and sit down to bún chả at the Obama–Bourdain eatery. End the evening with smoky phở and the city’s beloved Trang Tien ice cream. (B,D)

Day 3 Hanoi / Sapa (Journey to the Highlands)

After an early breakfast, leave behind Hanoi’s bustle for a scenic 5.5-hour drive into the misty mountains of Sapa, famed for its cool alpine climate, dramatic rice terraces, and vibrant mosaic of ethnic minority cultures.

Upon arrival, settle into your resort before setting out on a gentle trek to Lech Village, where winding trails lead you across suspension bridges and past cascading terraces that shimmer in the mountain light. Meet Red Dao families dressed in their intricate, hand-embroidered attire and gain insight into their enduring traditions. The afternoon is yours to relax and soak in the sweeping mountain views from your resort, or, if staying in town, to embrace Sapa’s lively charm — where folk performances animate the streets and evenings unfold with laughter, music, and cozy local eateries. (B)

Day 4 Sapa (Trekking & Village Encounters)

Following breakfast, set off on a full-day guided trek through Hoang Lien National Park. Walk among waterfalls and bamboo groves before reaching Nam Cang village, where lunch is served in a local home—fresh mountain vegetables, rice, and grilled meats. Discover how villagers craft silver jewelry and rice paper, then return to your ecolodge for an evening at leisure. (B,L)

Day 5 Sapa (The Roof of Indochina)

Spend a leisurely morning at your lodge before ascending Fansipan, the “Roof of Indochina.” A scenic cable car ride carries you above cloud-draped valleys and terraced hillsides to 10,000 ft+ above sea level, the highest peak in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. At the summit, wander the pagoda complex and enjoy sweeping panoramas stretching across the Hoang Lien Range. Return to Sapa Town and explore its lively center, where colorful markets, French-era architecture, and cozy cafés capture the charm of this mountain outpost. In the evening, transfer to Lao Cai for your overnight Vic Sapa Train journey in the comfort of your private cabin back to Hanoi. (B,L)

Note: Your itinerary on Days 3–5 may vary slightly (e.g., visiting different villages while offering similar cultural depth and experiences) if staying in Sapa Town at Silk Path Grand or Hotel de la Coupole.

Day 6 Hanoi / Halong Bay (From City Streets to the Sea)

Upon early morning arrival at Hanoi Station, your guide will bring you to a local joint for a hearty bowl of phở as you watch the city stir to life — flower vendors arranging blossoms, shoppers gathering ingredients, and shopkeepers opening stalls. Continue to Hoan Kiem Lake for a stroll where locals practice tai chi, then wander Hanoi’s Old Quarter as its narrow streets awaken before heading toward the sea. Upon arrival, step aboard your intimate luxury vessel and ease into a day of serenity and discovery. Cruise through enchanting waterways framed by soaring cliffs and secluded coves, each turn unveiling new vistas of breathtaking beauty.

Enjoy shore excursions to picturesque islands and ancient caverns, with opportunities to kayak or swim in tranquil lagoons. Onboard, savor freshly prepared lunch and dinner featuring regional flavors, accompanied by sweeping views of the bay. As evening falls, the calm waters and gentle rhythm of the ship set the stage for romance and quiet relaxation. (B,L,D)

Day 7 Halong & Lan Ha Bay (Village Life & Island Adventures)

After breakfast on board, sail by day boat to Cat Ba Island and cycle through emerald valleys to Viet Hai Village. Share a rustic countryside lunch of island specialties, from stir-fried vegetables to homemade rice liquor, before returning to your vessel. The afternoon is yours to kayak secluded lagoons, swim in jade waters, or simply unwind on deck. As dusk falls, savor another elegant dinner against the bay’s glowing limestone backdrop. (B,L,D)

Day 8 Halong Bay / Hanoi (Emerald Waters to Capital Charm)For the early riser, join a Tai Chi session on the sundeck while tea, coffee, and light pastries are served. Later, enjoy a final chance to kayak or simply relax on deck before savoring brunch on board. Disembark and transfer back Hanoi, arriving mid-afternoon.
