A Private China Tour of History, Nature & Cityscape – Beijing, Chongqing, Zhangjiajie, Shanghai

12 Days / 11 Nights – Tour Code (CNP) – Daily departure

China is a country where every step reveals a new dimension—its past, its landscapes, and its cities all colliding in ways that stir the senses. This unforgettable private journey of China brings together the nation’s cultural treasures, breathtaking natural wonders, and dazzling modern skylines in one seamless experience.

History lives in stone and spirit. Walk the ramparts of the Great Wall as it winds across mountain ridges, wander the golden courtyards of the Forbidden City, and marvel at the intricate carvings of the Dazu Grottoes—timeless masterpieces that capture the soul of dynasties past.

Nature, meanwhile, feels almost supernatural. In Zhangjiajie, sandstone pillars rise like guardians into the clouds, glass bridges span soaring gorges, and underground caves glitter with rivers and stalactites. A peaceful cruise on Baofeng Lake offers serenity, while the heights of Tianmen Mountain and its Heaven’s Gate arch promise exhilaration. Few destinations can rival the awe of these natural wonders.

Day 1 Arrive Beijing
Arrive in Beijing, where your personal guide will meet you for a private transfer to your hotel. Enjoy the rest of the day at leisure—perhaps strolling through nearby Wangfujing or simply relaxing after your journey.

Day 2 Beijing (The Great Wall)
Head northwest to the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall—a less-crowded, beautifully preserved stretch lined with 22 watchtowers. Ride the cable car up, walk along the ramparts, and take in sweeping mountain views before returning to the city for a stroll through Beijing’s historic hutongs, where families have lived for generations. Dinner is Beijing’s celebrated Peking Duck at one of the city’s finest restaurants. (B, L, D)

Day 3 Beijing
Explore Beijing’s most revered landmarks: Tiananmen Square, the monumental gateway to the nation’s history; the Forbidden City, a vast imperial complex once reserved for emperors; and either the Temple of Heaven or the Summer Palace, both masterpieces of Ming-era design. After lunch at a local restaurant, take a leisurely stroll along Qianmen’s vibrant pedestrian street before returning to your hotel for time to relax—perhaps with a cocktail or afternoon tea. (B, L)

*Note: City tour will be switched to the day prior in case this day lands on a Monday due to venue closures.

Day 4 Beijing / Chongqing
Fly to Chongqing, a dramatic “mountain city” where skyscrapers cling to cliffs above two mighty rivers. Wander lively districts like Xiahaoli and Changjiahui, where gleaming towers rise beside centuries-old streets, before indulging in a Sichuan dinner layered with bold spice and flavor. (B,D)

Day 5 Chongqing (Dazu Grottoes & Night Cruise)
Venture into the hills outside Chongqing to marvel at the Dazu Grottoes—a UNESCO World Heritage treasure where thousands of stone-carved Buddhas, bodhisattvas, and celestial beings reveal artistry that has endured for over a millennium. Return to the city in time for an unforgettable Two Rivers evening cruise, gliding past Hongya Cave, glowing bridges, and skyscrapers shimmering like jewels against the night sky. (B)

Day 6 Chongqing / Zhangjiajie
Board a sleek high-speed train through mountain and river landscapes, arriving in Zhangjiajie, gateway to one of China’s most spectacular natural wonders. After a relaxed introduction to the city, settle into your hotel for the evening. (B)

Day 7 Zhangjiajie (Zhangjiajie Forest Park & Tianzi Mountain)
Step into the otherworldly landscapes of Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, where thousands of sandstone pillars rise like a stone army shrouded in mist. Journey onward to Yuanjiajie, home to the famed “Avatar Hallelujah Mountain” and the astonishing Bailong Elevator—soaring glass lifts that reveal vistas once thought possible only in dreams. Next, ascend Tianzi Mountain, where jagged peaks and rolling valleys stretch endlessly into the horizon. A cable car (or trek, for the adventurous) rewards you with panoramas that have inspired painters and poets for centuries. This unforgettable day captures Zhangjiajie at its most breathtaking—ethereal, timeless, and utterly unique. (B,L)

Day 8 Zhangjiajie (Huaonglong Cave & Grand Canyon Glass Bridge)
Descend into the wonders of Yellow Dragon Cave, a vast karst labyrinth of soaring chambers, underground rivers, and glittering stalactites. After lunch, continue to the Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon and walk across the world-famous Glass Bridge, suspended high above a dramatic gorge with plunging cliffs and waterfalls below—a thrilling encounter with Zhangjiajie’s wild beauty. (B,L)

Day 9 Zhangjiajie (Baofeng Lake & Tianmen Mountain) / Shanghai
Start with a tranquil boat ride on Baofeng Lake, where emerald waters mirror steep cliffs and delicate waterfalls spill from hidden heights. In the afternoon, ascend Tianmen Mountain by cable car, exploring glass skywalks, sweeping viewpoints, and the iconic natural arch of Heaven’s Gate. Later this evening, transfer to the airport for your flight to Shanghai. Transfer to your hotel in Shanghai upon arrival. (B,L)

Day 10 Shanghai
Full-day city sightseeing of Shanghai features the Old Town and its Yu Garden, Shanghai Museum and the art district of Tianzifang, famed for its Old Shanghai Shikumen houses in a laid back atmosphere with cobbled streets lined with art galleries, cafes and restaurants. For lunch, we’ll sample some delicious soup dumpling for which Shanghai is famous. Enjoy a brief rest this afternoon or time for some last minute shopping before heading out for a breathtaking ERA Intersection of Time performance that features a spectacular mix Chinese acrobatics, dazzling visuals, live music, and cutting-edge stage effects. (B,L,D)

Day 11 Shanghai
Full day free at leisure to shop and explore Shanghai on your own. (B)

Day 12 Return Home.
Transfer to Pudong Airport by private car, or try the Maglev, one of China’s greatest technological marvels and the world’s fastest commercial train—gliding without wheels at speeds of up to 430 km/h—for your departure flight home. (B)
