Your introduction of Malaysia begins with Kuala Lumpur, affectionately known as KL, this sophisticated metropolis boasts a tasteful blend of dazzling architectures, fantastic shopping, bustling nightlife, amazing cuisines all in a unique melting-pot of races and religions where Malays, Indians, Chinese and many other ethnic groups live together in peace and harmony.
After a few days in the big city, we quickly shift gears to experience what Malaysia is most famous for – unrivaled nature, exotic wildlife and awesome adventure. Here, get up close and personal to learn about Malaysia’s robust wildlife conservation efforts. Starting with Turtle Island in the Sulu Sea, a safe haven for the endangered green and hawksbill turtles, we have the rare opportunity to observe turtle landings as they come ashore to lay their eggs, witness the process of collecting and planting their eggs in the hatchery, and ultimately release the hatching baby turtles to the open sea. Next, travel inland to some of the oldest rainforests in the world. Visit the fascinating Orang-utan Sanctuary at Sepilok where orphaned and injured orang-utans are brought for rehabilitation to be return to the wild. Learn about the center’s conservation methods and witness the feeding of orangutans as they emerge from the forest for their daily ration of bananas and milk. Next, travel by land and by boat to Kinabatangan Wildlife Sanctuary for some stunningly unique wildlife including the elusive Proboscis long-nose monkey, Macaques, Hornbills, the Orang-utan and other rare species found only in Sabah.
Last but not least, we end the trip at one of Malaysia’s most beautiful and diverse seaside spots – Kota Kinabalu. Home to Mount Kinabalu and some of the most prolific marine life on Earth, choose from an array of activities your heart desires everything from blissful relaxation on its white sandy shores, to diving and snorkeling atop virgin coral reefs, or a round of golf at one of KK’s Championship courses. Day 1 Arrive Kuala Lumpur
Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred to your hotel for your next 3 nights’ accommodations.
Day 2 Kuala Lumpur
Enjoy a morning city tour of Kuala Lumpur tracing through the Heritage Trails of the early cultures in Malaysia. Visit Chan See Shu Yuen Clan House, one of the most interesting clan House in Malaysia); Chinatown, Sri Maha Mariamman Temple, Central Market, Sze Yeh Temple, Jamek Mosque of North India Islamic architecture, and the Sultan Abdul Samad Building. Enjoy Malaysian lunch at a local restaurant. Balance of the afternoon at leisure to relax and explore KL on your own. (B,L)
Day 3 Kuala Lumpur (Malacca)
This morning, we travel by road to explore the birthplace of Malaysia – Malacca. Located on the banks of the river which in yesteryear teemed with Chinese junks and spice-laden vessels from all over the world, Malacca provides a glimpse into the splendid saga of an extraordinary empire. Enjoy a 45-minute cruise on the Malacca River followed by a walking tour of Malacca visiting the bridge over the Malacca River, Christ Church, Tan Beng Swee Clock Tower, Porta de Santiago, Baba & Nyonya Heritage Museum and Cheng Hoon Teng Temple. A Peranakan lunch at a local restaurant. Return to Kuala Lumpur in the afternoon. (B,L)
Day 4 Kuala Lumpur / Sandakan
Transfer to the airport your flight for Sandakan. Upon arrival, be met and transferred to your hotel. Enjoy the balance of the day at leisure to relax, explore Sandakan City and get ready for your eco-adventure ahead. (B)
Day 5 Sandakan / Turtle Island
After breakfast, transfer to the jetty and embark on a one-hour boat ride for Selingan Island which lies 40km north of Sandakan in the Sulu Sea. Selingan Island is a safe haven and main nesting area for the endangered green and hawksbill turtles. Upon arrival, enjoy time at leisure to swim or snorkel. After dinner, take part in a rare opportunity to learn about the park’s conservation efforts. Witness the collection of eggs from the nesting site, planting them in the hatchery and released baby turtles on the open shore. Overnight stay at the island chalet. Day 6 Turtle Island / Sukau
After an early morning breakfast, return to Sandakan by boat and proceed overland to Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation. Located deep in the rain forest, orphaned and injured orangutans are brought to Sepilok for rehabilitation to be return to the wild. Learn about the center’s conservation efforts and witness the feeding of orangutans as they emerge from the forest for their daily ration of bananas and milk. Continue your overland journey (approx. 2.5 hours) through rustic countryside followed by a short river boat transfer to Borneo Nature Lodge. Enjoy time at leisure to relax and soak up Borneo before embarking on a boat trip on the Menanggol River to the Kinabatangan Wildlife Sanctuary, one of the best places in Southeast Asia to observe wildlife where the elusive Proboscis Monkey, Macaques, Hornbills, Kingfishers and many others are often seen. Day 7 Sukau / Kota Kinabalu
Enjoy a morning visit to the Gomantong Cave and Semut Hitam cavern to explore the cave system on boardwalk. Proceed to Sandakan for lunch and a visit of the water village, central market, Buddhist temple. Transfer to Sandakan Airport for your late afternoon flight to Kota Kinabalu. Day 8 Kota Kinabalu
Full day free at leisure to relax and explore KK on your own. (B)
Day 9 Kota Kinabalu (Abdul Rahman Park – Gaya Island – Sepi Island)
Enjoy a full day island hopping excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park that beckons with its idyllic setting of sun, sand and sea. The five islands that make up the park are great getaways for simply lazing on the clean, white beaches or for more strenuous activities like snorkeling, diving (optional), or indulging in underwater observation of the plentiful marine life or underwater photography. Includes lunch at a local restaurant. (B,L)
Day 10 Kota Kinabalu
Full day free at leisure. Many optional tours (mountain trekking, whitewater rafting, scuba diving, golfing, etc. are available upon request). (B)
Day 11 Return Home
Transfer to the airport for your departure flight home, connecting in Hong Kong and arrive home the same day. (B)
