Top FAQs on Traveling to Japan
Japan is a year-round destination. The best times to visit Japan are spring (March to May) for cherry blossoms and autumn (October thru early December) for fall foliage. Winter is ideal for skiing, hot springs and enjoying Japan relatively crowd-free. While the summer months boasts lively festivals, it can get steamy as most tours require quite a bit of walking. But regardless of when you decide to travel, our teams here and abroad can adjust your itinerary to make your travels as comfortable and fulfilling as possible.
Well, it depends on how much time you have for this trip. If only a week, we suggest Tokyo and Kyoto, and depending on month of travel, Hakone as well to catch a glimpse of Fuji. This, however, will only give you a small sampling of what the country has to offer. If more time can be afforded for this trip, we recommend sprinkling in Takayama (culture, nature & ryokan stays), Kanazawa (castles, gardens and seafood) and Osaka (food & fun). Beyond these, the sky is the limit for Japan. Email us or give us a call to design a custom Japan trip specially right for you.
Our private Japan tour packages include airport transfers, 4 and 5-star hotel accommodations with daily breakfasts, and sightseeing tours by licensed local guides handpicked by our team. Many of our itineraries also include unique activities such as cooking lessons, street food tours, sumo wrestling shows, and more. But don’t worry – we’ll leave you plenty of free time to explore each city, so you’d have a chance to curate your very own version of Japan.
Yes! Since all of our Japan tours are private, any existing itinerary can be customized to your liking. In fact, the vast majority of our trips we sell have been modified to suit our travelers interests. Whether your preference is a food-focused journey, cultural deep dive, or a family-friendly trip, your trip can handcrafted based on your interests, pace, and schedules.
First, we listen. You’ll spend about 30 minutes on the phone (or over email, if you prefer) with one of our Japan travel specialists. We’ll get to know your interests, travel style, requirements, and budget. From there, we’ll craft a high-level itinerary that hits your must-sees and desired activities (sumo, tea ceremony, gardens, onsens, food tours, even Samurai sword training!)
Then, we refine it together — shaping your private Japan tour into a completely custom journey until it’s perfect!
And the best part? There’s no fee for planning until you say, “Let’s book this trip!” It’s what we do — and what we love.
All of our tours include licensed, expert English-speaking guides who provide cultural context, handle logistics, and ensure a personalized, smooth experience throughout your trip. While private cars are arranged on some excursions, most itineraries utilize public transportation (bullet trains, local trains/subways, buses, etc.). It’s not only more affordable, but a fun way to experience Japan’s vast transportation system that both efficient and convenient as well as immersing in the local culture. But don’t worry – you’ll be accompanied by your guide in each city to show you the ropes!
Absolutely! Japan is full of nooks-and-crannies and family fun for all ages. We design family-friendly holidays that include engaging attractions like teamLab Planets, samurai demonstrations, sumo shows, and bicycle tours that inject a whole new level of fun not found in typical Japan trips.
We recommend at least 10 to 14 days to explore Japan’s cultural and scenic highlights. A two-week Japan itinerary typically covers most major cities and rural gems while allowing time to relax and immerse yourself fully.
Japan is one of the safest and most efficient countries to navigate, even for first-time travelers. During your tours in each city, your guide will teach you how to navigate the public transit systems as well as providing insights on where to go and how. For your free days, our team here will help you plan your itinerary based on your interests and travel style, including providing detailed instructions, Google Maps coordinates, and transportation guidance for each segment of your journey—so you’re never truly on your own.
Your comfort and peace of mind are our top priorities. If you need assistance at any point during your journey, you’ll have access to our dedicated local support team and 24/7 emergency assistance. Whether it’s a missed train, a sudden schedule change, or unforeseen world events —we’re just a call away and ALWAYS have your back!
